Te Wiki o Te Reo Māori

Last week in our Cybersmart time with Kōka Amie, she was teaching us about using a tool to select colours on a theme or brand.  We looked at the theme colours of the Te Wiki o Te Reo Māori resources on their website and designed badges using these colours.

Our badges used some familiar phrases, such as Ka pānui ahau or Ka waiata ahau, but when we made our badges, many of us used Ka tākaro ahau, which for some of us was a new phrase.  It means, 'I will play'.

In the centre of our badges, we created our own images that reflected something that we like playing.  Can you see all the different types of kupu we've shared with you?

What do you like best about our badges?

Quality Blog Posts

We have been learning all about creating quality blog posts.  We know we need to add lots of information so that the readers of our blog  can use all this information to comment on our blog posts.  We also know that posting three or more blog posts every week can help us to keep improving our writing.  When we write a blog post, we need to include a reflection on our learning that shows what we were learning in our Cybersmart time, which tool we used, what we found easy, what we found challenging and what we could improve next time.

We know that quality blog posts have:

  •  full sentences
  • capital letters
  • full stops
  • information about our learning
In this class blog, you will find a gadget that links to each of our blogs.  Check out our posts this week to see what we have all created.

Kia ora World, from Central School

 Kia ora koutou!

We are a class of 29 learners in Year  5 & 6 at Central School. Our teacher's name is Mrs MacNeilage.

This is our first time working with blogs and we are beginning with a class blog, so that we can understand how blogs work.  Kōka Amie has told us that blogging helps us to learn about and practice being really smart online learners who know how to build smart relationships online and make good decisions about what we post and how we communicate with others.  We will remember to keep our comments Positive and Thoughtful  and Helpful.  We look forward to  sharing with you many of the wonderful things we do at Central School

One thing we've started learning about today is our Kawa of Care.  This explains how we will look after our devices  so that we always have them ready for learning.  Looking after a Chromebook is sort of like looking after a pet.  One example is to plug in our Chromebook just like we feed our pet.

One thing that is different between looking after a Chromebook and looking after a pet  is that a Chromebook doesn't need water.

In the slide below, we've added some of our  examples of the well-designed Chromepets that we've created to explain our learning about caring for our Chromebooks.
